Monitor Crash

I have a viewsonic PF775 monitor (not flatscreen) and a few days ago, it seemingly crashed. This was at night, and during the day, whenever I minimized/maximized certain windows, the screen would go wider, then narrow, then wide again. Right before it crashed, the screen went so wide I couldn't see the start button, or any of my icons. The monitor then turned off, (it usually does this: turns off within 10 minutes of not usage) and when I moved the mouse to turn it back on, I heard a fizzing in the back, (sort of like a TV static) and the screen went dead. Two seconds later, a horizontal line across the middle of the screen started getting brighter and brighter, until it was a white light. I smelled something burning, and I found it to be the back of the monitor, so I turned it off, and now, whenever I turn it back on, the line comes back. What should I do?

I have tried to restart the computer, but that didn't work. I am currently using a different monitor from our older computer.

Also, if this monitor is shot, what monitor should I get?

Thanks,

It definitely sounds like the monitors dead to me. Do you still have the warranty on it?

I don't know what our budget is, (I'm 8th Grade, by the way, I don't have my own budget) and I want an LCD. I would like the best one I can get, for the price of an average flatscreen.
