Newbie with new build and having issues!
I have an ASUS P4P800SE motherboard with a P4 2.4, 1gig ram, 128 GeForce 5500 video, and a Sound Blaster Audigy ZS something or other sound card. I'm not sure if all of this is relevant to my problem, but I can't get the USB ports working. The device manager says "The device is working properly" for all of them.
One thing, when I plug my game controller in, the lights don't even come on. Which I thought was strange. Rich |

Did you load the drivers that came with the Mobo for the USB?

Are they the rear mounted USBs or the PCI-cover panel ones?? (If you have the second types).

Yeah, the drivers are loaded from the CD that came with the board.
There are 4 rear mounted ports and 2 that I have in the front of the case. They did work at first, but I messed up the partitians the first time I installed the OS, so I reformatted and repartitianed and now they don't work. Rich |

Have you updated XP since the reinstall? You need SP1 or SP2 installed in order for the USB 2.0 to work.

Now I can't even get it to boot up. The windows screen comes up, then the screen goes black and there's a white line flashing in the upper left corner. After I restart it, it wants to start in Safe Mode. Grrrr.....

Boot into Safe Mode and then go into Device Manager and remove all the video cards listed. Reboot.
