Hot AMD 2600XP
I just recently started having overheating issues with my cpu. Case temps are at 27C and cpu temps were in the 53C area. I pulled my heat sink off and cleaned it and reapplied arctic silver 3 to the heat sink. I'm using a Coolmaster Aero 7 lite. Part number CP5-8J71F looks like this , only for amd, but specs are the same.
After cleaning the heat sink off temps dropped down to about 47C, but still seem real high. Found lots of dust in in the fins of the heat sink. This isn't over clocked at all... yet. I would like to OC it but would like the temps allot lower before even thinking of attempting it. Any suggestions let me know. I have checked to make sure the cpu is seated, and the fan is controllable and is set on max. Which is quite noisy. I'm using Motherboard Monitor 5 for temps. I have checked in the bios and it temps look to be about the same. I also have a few temp sensors, for the case and for a fan controller. However the temps from these are a bit lower because I just had them in the fins of the heat sink. I removed them to see if it changed the temps also. Does anybody have any ideas? I've been looking at new heat sinks, but I'm having trouble seeing what will fit and work very well. Sound isn't much of an issue, although if it were adjustable it would be nice for when the computer was idle.I don't really want to go water, never tried it, and would be a little nervous to try it just yet. |

Thermalright makes very good heatsinks if you're serious about overclocking...but be prepared to spends some serious bucks.
Also, make sure you don't use too much thermal compound. The two metal surfaces must make physical contact for good thermal transfer to occur. If you use too much compound it acts like insulation and prevents good contact from happening. Use it sparingly. Cricket
