are my optical drives failing??

Ok seems like I am developing more problems.

My Dvd drive - occasionally i will have to open and close the drive several times before the drive will spin up and read the disc.

My CDRW - occasionally the drive will open but not close. If i manually close it, it will not reopen unless I reboot.

both drives are on the same cable.

I have 2 hard drives on the other cable.

any thoughts.

ps. i cannot use my raid as add'l IDE - it will not work as stated in another post.

The first thing that I thought of was a flakey PSU. Try swapping out the PSU with another known good one. If that doesn't solve it, try swapping out the cable that the drives are both connected to with another one.

What happens if you totally disconnect one optical? Does the remaining connected optical still suffer the same symptoms? Now swap them... same question.

I know its not a flack PSU. I replaced the cable too see if that helps.

The Dvd is the master (set to cs in position 1)
the CDRW is the slave (set to cs in position 2)

been using the cdrw so for so good.
the dvd however took 2 tries to read a cd, could have been the disk so gonna
keep trying

thanks for the input guys
