weird SATA HD problem?
System
GA_k8nxp_SLI Gigabyte AMD 3500 64 bit Wincester 1gig Corsair 3200 ATI 700x pro Hitachi deskstar 120 GB Lian Li case Just made this build. Using Windows XP Pro. My Sata 150 drive plugged into the nativ sata ports reports with the option in the system tray "safly remove hardware". Why is that? I'll try a different HD tonight, I'll get a maxtor sata 150 to see if this is going to happen the same. I do hit F6 when I first run the xp installation. I disable raid in bios since Im not using it. but i have tried it both ways and its the same. I had the same problem on a k8nsnxp 754 socket mobo but I thought it was a defect so i returned it. I remember trying a seagate drive and the same thing happend. I even had a post but nobody was able to give me an answer. My question is also would this hinder the proper operation of windows if the drive is recognised this way, alsmost as a external drive since with those drives windows gives you the option to "safly remove hardware" where you hit stop and then you can unplugg the drive. I'm cluesless. |

SATA's are hot-swappable, so I doubt any damage/problems would result, even if you opened it up and pulled the plug (provided you're using a SATA power connector, not a 4-pin, but I wouldn't recommend hotswapping a drive from a standard ATX case anyway) As for why you're getting the error, I am unsure.

It probably senses that it's hotswap capable and gives you the option. This is a good thing, not an error. If you remove the OS drive, this is going to lock the computer up, but it should properly stop and close the drive for you so you don't lose or corrupt anything.

Thanks ...that's waht i am starting to think. This is also what happend. I skiped on the raid/sata drivers instal (hitting f6). When windows loaded for a couple of boots the drive was not listed that way. I think i was installing my dsl software and then the icon came up.
Im having other problems with this set up but i have to sort somethings out before I ask you guys. Im getting blue screens and just installed the win xp pro. I am getting the same blue screen with two different installations .....ill post later... thanks tho |

it does not "stop". so i guess its not hotswapable.
