XP crash loud beeping sound, when playing any game
This is kinda new to me...
I can go online do what ever I want, but as soon as I run a FPS game the compter crashes by freezing and I can hear a loud beeping sound. This also happend once when I had like 4 - 5 applications running (I think I had Adobe PS and 4 other progs running) same thing happend than, computer Win XP freezes loud beeping noise and I have to hard reset. First I thoud It was the Grafik card (X800) but since the card was working fine for like 3 month now I'm not so sure. If I play games with a big Fentilator (big fan you can put on your desk) infront of an open case it works fine System Win XP Pro CPU: Athlon 3000+XP Ram: 1 Gig 400 12: Gig Hardrive (can't remember what make it was) Grafik Card:ATI Radeon X800 (I know these can easylie overheat but everything was working fine with this card for month) I really hope some people have heard of this before and can give me some advice what to do |

Sounds like the CPU may be overheating. How many case fans do you have installed in your computer?

Well a few things could be happening.
Sound card could be bad or have wrong drivers. Motherboard could be bad or have bad chipset drivers. Video card could be bad or have bad memory or bad drivers or be seated wrong. CPU could be overheating or the System memory could be bad or overheating. RAM could also have errors that are not evident until heavy system use. Power supply could be bad or not be providing enough watts. Video card may have an additional power plug that needs to be plugged into the power in a specific way. |

I agree with Cricket. You have a heat problem.

okay guys
Thanks for your help ... I bought me the ATI Silenced cooler for my X800 card, because I was fairly sure it was the Graphic card that had the overheating problem. I just installed it and same problem happens... So in this case I could say it is most likley the CPU Is there a way to check the temp on the CPU in Windows with an additional program ? Would it help if I take the fan of and put some more cooling paste on it ? Any help is deeply apprechaited, maybe you guys could tell me how you would aproach this problem |

If the heatsink is installed properly, make sure you don't have a mess of wires around the heatsink fan. Move them out of the way and tie them back with nylon zip ties. And do you have any case fans installed? If you don't have any, you gotta go buy whatever size you need and install them. Typical fan set up is 1 fan in the lower front bring cool air into the case and 1 fan on the upper back of the case blowing warm air out. Cricket

Here is a link to SiSoft Sandra which can show you the temp of your cpu. http://www.sisoftware.net/
I woudn't advise putting anymore thermal paste on the cpu, you only need to have a drop about the size of a grain of rice and spread it around on there. To much paste and it your heatsink won't transfer heat as well. Good luck to you! |

hi
Thanks for your help I have taken the heatsink off and completly took all paste off and applied new paste, I put that much on that the complete CPU Core (middle part) was white was that to much ?t ... (I will now that I have read this take it off clean all paste of and put some paste on that is not bigger than a rice corn. I have checked the heat in the Bios and it goes up to 64 C that's iddle, so I have a massive problem. Thanks for the Software here is what I got when I check with the Software: This is with a big fan infront of an open case ... can anybody see anything from the way my bios or setup is that could cause the CPU to overheat ? What cpu are you running and what is HSF brand and model are you running?
Yes, you still have a heat problem if you have a big fan blowing on it and its still 50c. I run almost the same mobo, with a 3000+ XP, and a stock HSF. My cpu usually runs between 34-36c at idle. |

how are your fans set up? Also, how much airspace is around the CPU? what kind of Heatsink are you using? your heatsink needs a lot of airspace. Try to keep wires and cables out of the way.
Right now, I'd keep the cover off the PC, as that lets air openly enter. |

Cooler is this cooler : check it here There is enough space around it, I have to Fans one on the back sucking air out and one on the frontpannel blowing air in, atm one fan sucking air out right behind the CPU plus one big DESKfan blowing air in. I checked that no cables are in the way, this motherboard is setup so that you have yo go around with the lead mainboard PSU cables , But I think I have them under controll.I installed newest Mainboard drivers just in case. STRANGE THING IS FOLKS Maybe its the PSU I have a 650 one that pushes hot air on the CPU ? The PC was fine for a long time, when I bought the X800 it started as far as I can remember but the problem went away and it was okay for a long time. Any more ideas are very much aprechiated Great help here guys thanks a million

Try flipping the fans around. (Air blows in from the back, out the front)
Maybe you could look at a new heatsink... Last edited by Puffie40; 02-04-2005 at 01:34 PM. |
