Chipset Cooling fan mounting problem

Alright, on one of my mom's friends computer, the mobo chipset fan kind of went south on her the other day, and i got a replacement cooler for that, it says a VGA cooler, but from my experience the VGA cooler mount holes are often the same as mobo chipset mounting holes. Boy, today I was wrong. attached is a pic of my dilemma, note the circles highlighting the misalignments. im actually not going to use that heatsink in the pic, that is one those additional heatsinks they provide with the actual cooling fan set. Now a solution to that i have in mind is to use one of those 2 sided sticky tapes for attaching it to the chipset. but I need to check with u guys if this is an OK solution. I hope it is, cause im having great difficulty finidng these chipset fans around town. this was the best I can find so far. by the way, the mobo is an AMD socket A board with a VIA Chipset, model name A7V133.

TIA,
CN

Instead of thermal tape, I would use thermal epoxy...you get better thermal transfer with the epoxy than with the tape.

I'll keep that in mind, but now im just concerned that will either hold the fan and hs to the chipset, or if theres a risk of it falling off..

If you use thermal epoxy the heatsink isn't going to come off (or fall off) on it's own. You can remove it, but it takes a bit of effort.

Note what Cricket is referring to is *not* thermal paste, like regular Artic Silver, but it's actually called epoxy (there's a lot of companies who make it, Artic Silver being one of them, now aren't you confused?) and it will hold the HS on no problem.
