It's the same exact case...one comes with a low quality power supply and one doesn't. Ultra power supplies are just rebadged generic power supplies sold by TigerDirect. I would never use a Ultra PSU in any of my computers. In fact, I would never buy anything from TigerDirect anyway.

Why risk your entire system on a generic PSU? You can get a perfectly good PSU for $30-40. When bad PSU's go they normally take other parts with them, when quality supplies go they don't take anything with them.

If you are on a budget, that's one more reason not to shop at TD. You get what you pay for there, and if it's cheap, it's most often junk. Their prices on quality stuff are easily beaten at better vendors.
Before you buy that case, at least look through the selections at Newegg, Mwave, Directron, and ZipZoomFly, and note carefully what power supplies they come with, if any. Sure, I've seen noname junk power supplies last for years with no problems, but I've also seen them go up in smoke and destroy half the rest of your components at the same time. Quality power supplies don't necessarily have to cost an arm and a leg either - look at Enlight and Sparkle. |

People normally reccomend this enlight although it appears to be out of stock at the moment. The thermaltake and sparkles are just as good as the enlights (the thermaltakes are enlight PSU's) and cpst around the same.

This Chenming case is basically the same thing as that Dragon case, just doesn't have the glossy paint job.
ZipZoomFly has the same Ultra Dragon ULT30964 Mid Tower Case w/Clear Side Window (Glossy Black) Retail on their site for $70. Cricket

There is nothing wrong with the Ultra case, it's the same thing as the similar Chenming, Chieftec, Thermaltake, Antec cases (all made in China by either Chenming or Chieftec).
I just pointed out you could get the Ultra from ZipZoomFly. Or you could get a black Chenming case for $60 at Newegg. Try not to use instant messaging text when you type your posts...use proper English so we can understand what you're saying. Try to use punctuations too. Cricket

I am not sure, but probably not. This thread: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=98650 contains a list of good and bad power supplies. When you find a case that you like, it does not matter whether it has a PSU in it. When you get the case you can swap out the PSU's, so that there is a good one inside.

Is this too expensive? BTW, most systems will run fine on a good 360W supply, generally 420W is only really need if the PSU is not very good (over rated) or a lot will be going into the computer - ie a couple of Geforce 6800's etc.

From what you have said - yes, the 6800 only needs a 350W PSU and it should easily handle a AMD64.

$90? You sure about that? How can the power supply that comes with a $70 case cost $90 by itself?
This 500 watt Ultra PSU is $45. It looks exactly the same as this 500 watt Ultra PSU which is $90. TigerDirect trickery? This is why I don't trust this vendor. Cricket

Get the case that you like from ZipZoomfly, they are a better retailer. Buy it here
Then buy the Thermaltake power supply from Newegg. Buy it here With those two, you'll be all set.

Unfortunately you have to calculate in shipping as well... factor in around $30 for a full tower like that and your well over a $100 before getting a PSU
Try Amamax for free shipping .... http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/csamxa241sx1040blck.html just click off all the extras...$84 They also have a great PSU deal...$43 shipped... http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/psspecialxcwt420atx.html Last edited by JPMiller; 02-04-2005 at 02:13 PM. |
