Can I mix 68 pin SCSI internal LVD drives with external SE drives?
I have a computer with 68 pin SCSI internal LVD drives. I want to add more storage capacity. I have a 68 pin SCSI external SE drive. Can I mix 68 pin SCSI inernal LVD drives with external SE drive? Would the mix drops the performance?

Yes, you can mix if you use a different channel on your controller for the external drives. There will be no performance issues as long as each chain is properly cabled, terminated, ID'd, and set up in the controller bios.

How do I select a different channel for the external drive?
My scsi card is Adaptec AHA-2940UW that support 50 pin and 68 pin internal and 68 pin external. The card uses interrupt channel 11 and id 7. The internal LVD drives uses id 0, 1 and 2. I don't have the external SE drive connect yet. |

The 2940UW can use 2 of the 3 connectors (CHANNELS) simultaneously, but only the Pro version can use all 3 simultaneously. Just connect the external drive to the external connector and set it to ID3, and terminate it. If yours is not the Pro version, and you are using the internal 50 pin connector, you cannot use the external connector.
