Wink What say ye........

Artec DVD drive
Lite On DRD-R+RW
MSI motherboard
2200 XPProc.
512 MB DDR RAM

Using Nero 6.0 drive speed test(quick copy)

This drive will only show 0.63MB of data on the disc and the average read speed is 2.74........(Artec)
The drive below it (Lite-On DVD-R+RW) will show 4.63 MB on the same disc
with an average read speed of 12.62.
Burning at 4x will run the buffer to 100% until the phase process gets to about 10% then drop down to 50% until the phase gets to about 65% and
then it will go back to 100% until the disc finishes successfully.(17.5 min.)
Burning at 6x the buffer will drop to 50% and stay there until the disc finishes
successfully.(27min.)
At 8x........dont even try it....will error out with an underrun error before it
gets to 15%.
Have seen an error that the source is too slow.

Is the ARTEC drive bad????

Thanks for any help......have burnt data CD'S but this is my first attempt with
the DVD drives........

Is DMA enabled on all your IDE controllers?

Yeah..........checked and double checked it.
Also have both drives on the same IDE Controller but if you seperate them
the buffer drops to zero and you recieve the underrun error.

Changed the DVDR(player) and the read buffer went up to 100% and held
like it should.
