installing old HD on new MB
I have ordered a Asus P4C800 deluxe mother board and will be installing my old hard drive, video card,floppy,read/write drive. Do I just connect everything and turn it on. What about windows XP home edition that is already on the drive? Is my data safe?
Thanks for any help. John |

the only problem I see is that that motherboard comes with a cd that has all the drivers for the hardware thats on the motherboard, and its recommended that they be installed the first thing after the O/S is installed, and before any other software is installed,
you can put everything together and do a install repaire with xp, and then run the motherboard cd to install all the drivers, this would be doing everything backwards and may not go as smothe as you would like. I have done the same thing with my system that I am running now, and it did go very smothe for me, hopefuly it will for you too. I replaced the motherboard and cpu with the same brand. if your doing the same thing, it may work fine. if your not, then don't say I didn't warn you. the best thing to do is a clean install, and reload all your software |

If your new motherboard has the same chipset as the new mb you may be able to just update the drivers without a clean install.
I have done it once or twice before but I don't recommend it, It's always good to do a fresh install when upgrading your mb. |
