Computer cannot boot to OS

Hi
My friends computer cannot boot to OS, here is what happens when he presses the power switch:
1. Monitor displays graphics card info.
2. POST beeps are normal
* Edit *: 3. Computer freezes with blank screen
he cannot get into the bios and anything past that.
He has a Gigabyte GAK8NS-Pro, Corsair TwinX 1024-3200XL-Pro, Athlon64 3400

Anyhelp would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

there should be a error code displayed, the post beep says that it posted ok, so if he cant get into the bios, I would replace the keyboard and try to get into the bios again, also its possible that the video card my be bad.

Try replacing the data cables (IDE or SATA) first.

Try booting the system up with the optical drive disconnected.

Is this a brand new computer or has it been running fine until now?

Hi
His computer is an old computer running fine until now. He added upgrades and now he cannot get anything displayed on the screen where it normally shows the HDD's CPU, BIOS...
It does not start with any HDD's, optical drives connected.
Ill tell him soon.
Thanks
Jason

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Did he install an old hard drive with XP already installed on it in a system using a new mobo and other upgrades?

Since when is a Athlon 64 3400+ system considered old?

That is his upgraded cpu, not his old one...he was just upgrading it.
Anyways, he is going to use his original HDD(before upgrade), this problem occoured after he installed his new RAM. He checked compatibily on the corsair website.

*Now that he told me...he actually upgraded everything but case, and agp

Tell your friend to try and do a WinXP Repair Install.

He cannot exactly do it, as I have said, his screen goes blank at the point before going to the BIOS part(where you can press delete and change settings) thus he cannot actually press 'Delete' to change it.

He knows how to install XP...

Right now, the problem is that he cannot get to the point where he can actually change any settings at all.

RMA the motherboard. My friend got the same problem, we tried everything, the pc is just dead. The monitor is black, electric is flowing, but nothing happens. Tried changing CPU, HD, ram, cables.

RMA? Uh...Can someone explain what it means? Which components should be replaced?

RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization. You contact the vendor and tell them the problem. They give you the okay to return the defective product. They'll give you an RMA number to include with the defective product.

Return the motherboard.
