I wouldn't use any of those...I've heard heatsinks that use those squirrel cage type blowers don't cool that well.

The ALX800 is a proven performer and one that will definitely get your CPU temps down...but can you even find these anymore?

This Masscool/Speeze FalconRock is said to be a good heatsink for a very affordable price.

Second Cricket's recomendation. I'm running a 2500 with that HSF. Temps run in the 42-44C range. I built my sister & Daughter PC's with 2600's and that HSF with similar temps.

I still agree with Cricket's recommendation if you are bound and determined to spend money. But at 48C I would set my warning in BIOS to 70C and shut down at 75C, save my money and enjoy my PC.

Thumbs up Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler-Pro

I've got a 3000+ Barton core cpu, it used to run at 55-60 deg c under load with the stock cooler. I just got a Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler-Pro HSF. Its great. It dropped my temps to 35 deg under load and 30 deg when not under load. It also comes with a speed controller to put into a 3.5" bay and a PCI bracket fan speed controller if you don't want to lose a 3.5" bay. Its really quiet too, you can only hear the muffled whoosh of moving air when its at its maximum speed.

I like the alx and appreciate you recomending but can not find in stock, but here are some that I am looking @ and can't find a good review site.

1. thermaltake volcano 10+ and up to 12
2. ocz gladiator
3. pc toys quiet max 5100(listed @ svc)
4. cooler master alps silet heat pipe
was going to have a fifth but found the pc toys for $5.95-cheap and if doesn't work not a big deal

-ok they wanted 8 bux for shipping-

The Masscool/Speeze FalconRock is a proven performer for a very reasonable price. It's probably just as good as the Thermaltake Volcano 10 and most likely runs more quietly.

Other good heatsink makers to look at are Swiftech, Zalman, Alpha, and Thermalright.

Regardless of what heatsink/fan combo you get, a little lapping and arctic silver 5 seems to help. I've got the 2500+ and stock hsf which is usually between around 35 celcius depending on load and room temp.

ok got the new hs but the fan isn't big enough so have to upgrade that. it came with a 60mm fan so have to get an adapter and put a 80mm on it. temps before chnge were running up again to 52c with new sink 45c but not constant without load. have not checked with load yet due to I think to hot yet will post when get new fan and some better thermal past, the coolermaster not holdng up think will get some ceramique and see if that works and lap the new sink(have 600 grit wet/dry) the highest I can find @ menards

Yes, the fan should be blowing down onto the heatsink.

splat

Here's my new issue the heatsink cooled good when bought but now tempt @ 53c and steady without load. I have been thinking of upgrading to put an 80mm fan on it so it will cool better (hopefully) it came witha 60mm but not much airflow riged up my old fan on it also to try to keep it cool during the meantime while looking for an adapter and fan. I am thnking of getting ceramique for it when chage out the fan to see if a better thermal compound will help. any Ideas are appreciated(think I shoul have gottern the tornado 12)

I dont understand why your worried aboot your temps so much... if your system is running great without any crashes then dont worry about it .. I run low 50s all the time and high 50s when gaming ... AMDs run hotter and theres not much you can do about it .. a few degrees lower wont make it go faster.

Overclocking by just raising the FSB speed doesn't raise CPU temps that much...it's when you raise the vcore voltage that temps will really start to skyrocket.

If you're really serious about overclocking, get a Thermalright HSF...they're not cheap, but they're the best.
