This is my main rig, Atonement64. It started out like this. I'm not sure where to go from here as I don't want anything too fancy. I was thinking of adding another aluminum plate on the top where the 120mm blow hole is extending all the way to the rear and then mounting 2 120mm in the same fasion as the 4 80mm's that are behind the front aluminum plate.
And yes... my power and reset switches are Motherboard Stand-offs.

I really like wood cases. There is something satisfying about taking something as modern as a computer and putting it inside an old classic beautiful material like wood. It takes something that is cold and common and turns it into something beautiful and unique. Us older folks remember when TV sets and stereo units were made of wood and they could be used as a piece of furniture. Modern looking computers don't look good in older, classic homes. I plan on making my next computer case out of wood and using it as an entertainment computer in the living room.

I didn't use a kit. It's custom made... but really easy to do. The window is just a clear CD CASE and the trim is that cheap stuff you can buy at Walmart for your car. Just cut the hole a bit smaller then the CD CASE, cut your trim peices and glue the cd case on and your good to go!

Thanks Stryker.
If you go to walmart in the Automotive Deptartment ask someone there for the DOOR TRIM. There should be Chrome or Black. It comes in a pack of 2 strips about 2-3 feet long for less then 5 bucks I think. It's got a self adhesive on it so all you need to do is cut it to size. Also you might want to try a COLORED cd case for a different look. I also have a mirror on the top of my upper cd drive to help shoot light through the window. I got the mirror from Walmart as well in the automotive deptartment. It's a Side-View repair kit. Barch... are your lights really that dang brite or is that a product of the digi cam with no flash? It's a nice case, don't get me wrong, but dang. Last edited by KilluminatiStyle; 06-08-2005 at 02:45 AM. |

Some awesome case work on here. The computer in my sig is in the same case, and looks much like yours Big Jay, except I have 5 blue LED case fans, and significantly more wires.
I would post pics, but I have a significant lack of Digital Camera. It looks ridiculously sexy though, I mean, as much as a computer can look sexy. |

yo killuminati...i have the same case as you or somethin xtremely similar...j/w but does the top panel come off easily? i havent fully taken it apart yet, but i am going to. adding some new fans/was considering a blowhole. Is that top fan a 120? i thought the 120 might look a little to big on mine, but it looks very good proportion wise on yours. just a hint...might wanna hack out those 80mm grilles and put some new ones on, the kind they sell at SVC for next to nothing that are like concentric chrome circles (the finger guard kind). i did it to mine and put some coolermaster blue UV fans in there. its awesome like that.
About ur top window...thats just a CD case, then how did you put the case? cut the hole a little smaller then the case, glue the window on the inside of the case, then put the stuff on top? i just ordered a 120mm fan to add as intake and a 60 for exhaust (case only holds a 60 for exhaust), but seeing as i already have 2x80mm intakes, i may use the 120 for exhaust...either mod it into the rear of the case where the 60 spot is, or put it as a blowhole. If i use it for intake, i will cut a 120mm hole where the 4 80mm fans can fit in the front and put it there. which of these would u guys recommend? also im getting a fan controller (NICE looking on svc for 4.99)...should i control all 4 case fans, or 2 case and the GPU and CPU fans wit it? i think id rather have the case fans unless theres a reason to do otherwise...b/c i dont wanna accidently turn a knob and have my HSF turn off. EDIT: ive been wanting to get good pics of my PC forever now to post here. all i have is a scanner. my sis lost the software for my digital camera, and wont let me use hers

Also, if you have 2000/XP, you don't exactly need software for your camera. It's recognized in Windows automatically, and you can use MS Paint, the Scanner and Camera wizard, and the Image Resizer Powertoy to perform most functions.

Thanks for suggestion about the 80mm's. I've thought of doing that for some time now but I'm not sure if I want to go that route. I am definately going to open the side up more some how though. It is a 120mm on the top. I went with a 120mm so I could have a "quieter" fan running there that pushed a good amount of air. It's one thing to have LOUD fans inside the case but to have a loud fan as an EXHAUST or INTAKE is a whole new world noise. As far as the top panel coming off, mine is riveted on. Which ofcourse sucks. It would be nothing to take the dremel and drill out the rivets and add my own screws but I didn't feel like doing it at the time. The cd case window thing worked out perfect in more ways then one. First of all the cd case is a darn near perfect fit in the top there and it just so happens that the square I cut out actually made mounting the thing a breeze. The cd case edge near the front of the PC is actually placed on top of a "LIP" in the case. All I had to do was use some double sided tape or hot glue on the back side, near the fan, and it was in good and snug. I put the trim on before I put the window on btw. |

btw, i found a pretty easy way to take out those grilles. i know you have a dremel, but for those of you that dont and have thos type of punched-out restrictive grilles, just grab a basic drill. drill a hole into each of the 4 points which connects the grille, start small, and go bigger until you cant go any bigger without going outside of teh fan hole. once ur there, get some type of cutters and just clip the two small pieces of metal holding on each of the 4 connection pts of the grille. then sand it down, its as easy as that. mine didnt come out PERFECT, but if i had sanded more they would have. they look fine anyway--the new grilles connect at the same points as the old ones, so u cant even see the minor mistakes i made. im gunna try to "borrow" my sisters digi cam once i get my order in from svc...and once i get my dremel. ive been dyin to post some pics, even though i havent gotten very far modding wise yet. im slowly getting much better though, starting smaller and hoping to go bigger w. the mods. |

Cutting the side fan grills would be a cake walk with the dremel.
I have a total of 6 intake and 3 exhaust and my case runs pretty cool. I think the NUMBER of fans is irrelevant if your careful about fan arrangement and mind your CFM's. Example, my four front intake fans are all cheapo quad LED's that push probably only 25-30cfm each. The side instakes do about the same. The 120mm blow hole pushes a considerable amount more and so does the 120mm in my PSU(new PSU since pictures were taken). Then theres that little 60mm on the back which I put there mainly to pull the warm air away from the "black box's" on the motherboard which have heatsinks on them. Not sure what they are but I understand they have a big effect on power rail stability and should be kept cool when overclocking. |

EDIT: about the top fan, thats centered exactly right? i think thats one of the reasons it looks so good, seems like its right between the length and width of the case. how'd you measure it out? my guess is, its gunna be a little tough since the top panel doesnt come off. should i draw a circle on the inside, or tape it off, or what? i guess im gunna have to strip down my case as much as possible to the bare grey metal and the blue top part which doesnt come off. when i do this, ill cut the hole for the front 120mm fan too just so i dont have to take out my mobo n everything again--its gonna be a real pain. think the 120mm on the front is a better idea than putting 80's there? i do want it to be quiet...the 120s run fairly slow right, just that the size lets them push more? The fan is EXACTLY centered yes. However you should be careful when doing this and make sure that your going to have enough room for the power supply and the 120mm. Mine is VERY close. As far as measuring goes, I just got the center buy measuring length and width. From there I used a compass and a DRY ERASE marker to draw the circle for the hole. Pretty simple really. I drew the circle on the outside of the case... which is why I used a dry erase marker. If you do this just be careful to not wipe the marker off with your hand while cutting. I wouldn't try to cut from the INSIDE OUT as you will most likely not beable to do things very well with the drive cage getting in the way, which is also rivetted in my case.
The 120mm in the front is a fine idea. But just because 120mm is bigger doesn't mean it's quieter, although that is the idea. With the fan controllers I'm sure you'll beable to keep everything good an quiet for you. You could also get something from around the house that is about the same size as the 120mm and just eyeball it. I had a peice of tupperware that is almost an EXACT match as far as size goes. That little thing is now in my collection of "pc make-over" toys. Definately strip your case down. You don't want any stray chunks of metal from the cutting to get cought on your mobo. You might find yourself having a very bad day. Me, I'm all about performance. I don't really care about the sound too much, though my computer right now DOES sound like a turbine when it kicks on. Vantec Tornadoes don't mess around and I have 2 of them inside my case both going FULL THROTTLE. |

For that household item as the template use a standard CD, they are exactly 120mm.

Sry, didnt see that kiluminati aready told me not to cut from inside. so i do this with case standin up? ok, anyway i had a dvd sittin on top of my case so i lined it up where id want the fan--it was centered on the TOP PANEL, but this excluded the 1" or so of the front panel part. i want it centered this way, and with my small PSU it will fit with ease here. thx for all the advice killuminati...im psyched to do this, and it shoudl help temps alot since i have no exhausts now. My goodness I wish I knew that b4. Just make sure to go good and slow with the cutting and change your bit often so you don't drag the dremel head across the paint.... if you know what I mean. If you don't I'm sure you will understand when you cut. Good luck with it. Last edited by KilluminatiStyle; 07-04-2005 at 02:47 AM. |

Just spent most of today moving the PC in my sig into another case as I had a little mishap with the old one
(forgot the door was closed, clicked to eject a CD and snap...off came the door) sp i replaced it with a ThermalTake Tsunami Dream- silver with side windowAnyways, not really a custom case but just some neater than my usual standards of wiring etc (and a UV CC to go with the UV reactive slots on the mobo). Here's a few shots, appologies for the pic quality i did them using my camcorder. Routed most of the wiring for the USB ports/audio etc behind the motherboard and just brought the cables out by the relevant headers. Sleeved the PSU/MB cbales up with nylon sleeving and cut out all the unnecessary PSU cables too. Wiring 1 Wiring 2 Shot of case in the light Shot of case in the dark
