Show off your Custom Case Work.
Ok, this should be pretty simple and I have discussed this with DrZaius.
I have proposed we make a thread and use it as a place for members here at PCMECH to post pictures of Custom Mods and paint jobs they have done. No links or pictures unless you had part in the work. I know many of us see very nice Case Mods and paint jobs on the internet and we sometimes post links about them and discuss how they look and stuff. Well, I feel it is time we have a place we show off our own work. Think of it as a PCMECH Show Case. This way, they can all be in one nice, easy to find thread, with pictures and descriptions. So if you have any custom pc work you want to show off, this is the place. As for myself, I hope to do some custom work this coming spring and add as well |
Seems im first :)
OK heres whats done, I painted the case black on the inside with auto paint, and Electric blue pearlcoat on the outside. Added a custom top window and replaced the side window. Also made room for a second 120mm fan on the side panel. It has a transmission cooler as a rad and is all passive at the molment as im workin on a shroud for a different fan. The full specs are in my sig. Here are some pics, (the first 6 are new) http://photobucket.com/albums/v231/-FLG-/ |
thats very cool, what do you think of my case mod

Geez FLG, there's no chance of that overheating :D
Is that an automotive cooling fan on there? |
That's a nice mod from a stereo. I have an old Fisher with a broken tape deck. Have thought for a while about putting a small board into the deck. Now that I saw Big Jay's mod I am motivated.
Okay, guys, check out the Old Stalin Era Russian Radio my assistant and I modified into a media player. Need to get some round cables for the back. But it looks good from the front. ;) The link is in my signature. |
Stay Tuned!
The Stereo mod has rekindled an idea I had a few weeks ago. My 5.1 RCA receiver took a dump so I replaced it with a comparable Yamaha 6.1 unit. Rather that throw the RCA piece away I've decided to mod it into computer. I'm taking pics as I go and I'll share them when I get it all worked out. The goal is to create a functional AMD M-ATX computer while retaining the original look of the stereo receiver. Goal number 2 is to tie it in to my entertainment system as a mass storage/playback device for my music collection! Thinking of using the TV as a monitor when needed and using the sound output as an AUX input on the Yamaha unit. Will no doubt need a wireless keyboard and mouse for operation. Should be fun. ;)

I have to say, I too love the stereo mod. I have been planning a wooden computer mod this spring, but I as well have an old large case defective stereo that I think i will use for my first mod attempt. Big Jay, you started something.
|
cool, at this rate we will need a thread just for this type of mod, good luck you guys with your mods, i am planning my next one already, thinking of a clear case, cant make my mind up yet, do i buy one and tweak it or build one from scratch?
|
Jay...maybe find a clear acrylic fishtank thats just the right size? And if you have some real guts...place the fishtank inside a slightly larger fishtank and add fish...Can you imagine?....the guts of a working computer with fish swimming around it...and yes, I am sober at the moment.

Not finished. And yes I get bored as hell some days.

namakan, its a nice case, but it could do with some colour, is the bottom part in the shape of an "X" a fan hole if so maybe put some thin like this in there, they look outstanding inside a case
|
Yeah Bigjay, it is a 80mm intake there, and there is one other 80mm on the back.
I just took the whole thing apart today, so all the panels etc are off, and I have just the frame to work with. I have a coolermaster 120mm quad blue LED fan I think i will put in that front intake, just gotta mod the hole a bit bigger. I don't see why they didnt put a 120mm or 2x 80mm's in there in the first place, there is tons of space. I am going to try and fit another 80mm fan underneath the one in the back, but I'll see if i can, it will be real close. I am also going to put a large the window in the side, maybe on the top too if I'm feeling ambitious :) The side panel will have 2 92mm fans, one over the cpu, and one over the pci/graffic cards, Then a blowhole in the top, not sure about size, but it should be big because what with the two side fans and the front one there is going to be alot of intake. I am considering painting the inside of the case black or something, then doing some designs in uv paint on the interior, anything special I should do when painting the inside? If anyone has a guide link or something that would be awsome. Of course this will all be finished off with blue/uv ccfls, I am also just reading about how to do window etching.. :) man this is fun lol. namakan |
you could use this to adapt the 80mm fan hole in the front instead of cutting the front
|
I think I will go with the cut, it isnt very hard, and I'll get getter airflow.
I doubt one of those would fit in there anyway. namakan |
i know what u mean, i used one in the top of my case but couldnt fit one in the front so i just used a 80mm fan for it, round IDE cables are a very good for air flow

My mod isn't much -- I just put switches in the top of the case so that I could turn off the LEDs on the front, so that they wouldn't bother me at night when I was trying to sleep. But the really custom part is the cable routing -- I took the entire case apart in order to route some cables behind the front bezel.

good work on the cables, makes my one look a mess

i havent really done much of anything but add the red/green led fans and 9"blue neon, so far-when my new processor arrives i got a coolermaster jet 4 hs/fan, and might be cuttin in a fan it the top, ill post those pics in a couple weeks, but here it is so far

I did little also. Basicly taking a standard Tusnami Casing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/119_1982.jpg turning it into this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/119_1973.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/119_1975.jpg Then had a disastrous way of controling the CCFL, which I pryed the PCI slot to fit the switch sensor out, which was not a good idea as well, so I made a DPST switch controlling both front casing and CCFL lights http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/100_0072.jpg The front 3 items from left, DPST switch, Thermaltake fan PSU controller, D-bracket system diagnostics (some MSI thing-weird thing is that it was place on a PCI slot. I don't get it when you are finding errors on your pc and have to check at the back of the case, so I took it forward. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/123_2308.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/123_2307.jpg Then from this to http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/DSCN0855.jpg Paint-sand paper the CD-rw to get the gloss finish. remove the two knobs, since you cannot close the door without the knobs banging into each other. Steps: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2411.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2413.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2426.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2433.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2435.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/124_2437.jpg Previously 2 switches, I changed the other to the DPST switch. Before and after switch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/100_0075.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/100_0076.jpg Then Hiding cables, drill holes in the back tray. Pics not updated yet :) |

My Woody
This is my home-built case. I call it the Breadbox. Most of the material is from HomeDepot,Lowes,Ace & RadioShack etc. I made the cover for the psu & air filter out of some scrap stainless. I covered the psu out of concern that the hard-disk was so close to it. I don't know if it's really needed but I don't have any EMF data corruption problems. The filter is for a lawnmower, had to cut the paper away because it is WAY too restrictive. The rubber seal on the top is cut from a garage door bottom seal. The drive mounts are plumbing pipe hangers.

ok how about that one fish tank/case thing only with a normal tank like for a lizard or gerbil or something you'd have to make breathing holes and stuff wouldn't have the trouble of water above a bunch of curcuitry though

Since I am a drummer, I have thought about putting a computer inside an old drum.
