754 and 939 Athlon 64s...!!

Is there any real performance difference in Socket 754 and Socket 939. Is dual channel memory really showing performance boost in 939 socket Athlon 64s........Future upgrades apart......is socket 754 really low performer than socket 939.
What are the cons of 754 socket over 939 socket......apart from future upgrades. I'll not be doing upgrades till next 3 years..!!

They will both perform just about the same. Dual channel doesn't make a big difference ... at all ... on AMD64 systems. Either one of those is fine really. If you really don't care about upgradeability, go ahead with s754.

Are you planning to upgrade the current system you have now or are you building an entirely new one ?

As far as I know, the 754 is now going to be classed with the lower end AMD chips (Sempron) and the 939 will be the standard for the Athlon 64s.

Yeah, the only real difference is upgrading, and there are more features on more s939 boards. The s754 boards will be a little more low end, as will the cpus for that socket. In my opinion, with the prices almost equal for s939 and s754 cpus and mobos, I say go with 939.

Doesn't really matter. But the facts stated above are true tho. You can go for s939 with minimal price difference. From Anandtech : for s754 the nForce3 chipset performs VERY slightly better, for s939 the Via chipset performs VERY slighty better than nforce3. ASUS makes good boards, they wouldn't put an unreliable chipset on them an jeopardize their good reputation.

Up to you - both of them perform very well. In the end, I generally say that the only difference is that if you intend on doing some overclocking projects with it, the nForce3 chipset might be better.
