Need Help Finding Good PCI to SATA Controller Card

I need some help in finding a good PCI to SATA controller card for extra SATA interface connections within my computer. I dont know who makes what and who is good in this department. I also do not want to be spending a ton of money. Trying to keep it below $30.00 US maybe under $25.00 US.

I know that the one I am looking at (listed link below) has the same 'Silicon Image' chip that is within ASUS motherboards. The brand of this card is Koutech. Is this a good enough card for me to use for connecting a DVD/RW drive or other drives to? I noticed that is was recommended to someone else by glc in a different post.

Thanks in advance!!!

AK

Cool

If GLC recommended it, it would be good enough for me to hook a SATA HD to.

I don't know about SATA opticals but the recommendations on this forum has been not to hook IDE optical drives to a PCI expansion card. You need HAL, GLC or one of the other more knowledgeables to answer if opticals apply to SATA expansion cards also.

Hmmmm, that is something I need to figure out then. Thanks for the help though Charlie.

Should I hook both hard drives to the PCI card and then hook the DVD/RW to the motherboard? I hope someone can help...

Yup. Hard drives on the PCI card. That's what they're designed for. Opticals on your mobo IDE's. You can put each optical on it's own channel as master for a little faster response.

The DVD/RW is SATA interface though. That is the one I am looking at and would like to get. My motherboard supports 2xSATA interface port plugins.

Oops! Missed the SATA opticals part. Haven't worked with that combo but I'd still think the hdd's need to be on the PCI controller card.

Thanks for the help PR. I was just making sure I was ok to buy a SATA interface optical drive. If the controller card is made for hard drives then I can just plug them into the card and then plug the SATA DVD/RW into the motherboard. The Plextor drive I am looking at comes in IDE as well, but it isnt sold on Plextor's website anymore and I cannot find any being sold anywhere.
