Blue Screen

After an ice storm a few weeks ago that caused a few power "brown outs" my HP 1.3 Athalon started to act up. On occasion, whether I am on the machine or not I get a blue screen with the following message:

A problem has been and windows has been shut down to protect damage to your computer.

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen
Restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
These steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
For any windows updates you may need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as cashing or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to disable or remove any components, restart
Your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options , then select
Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x0001ACB4, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk: Then the system counts from 1 to 99, and reboots.

I'm thinking the "brown outs" damaged the mother board or the harddrive, but not sure how to check either. I have reloaded a new copy of XP and ME, both with difficulty, errors and the Blue Screen. Currently running XP and The "blue screen" episodes happen two or three times a day. Thank goodness for the trusty ole laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

two things I would look at first
1 memerroy may have been damaged, run memtest to check that
2 power supply may have been damaged, check the voltages or replace.

sence you elimated any software corruption by reinstalling the O/S then it must be a hardware problem.

Memory checks ok. I can't explain this but, yesterday afternoon we had another "power brown out" and the PC has stayed on and connected to the network for almost 18 hours. When i was getting the blue screen, it was happing two to three times a day.

If it helps, I found this at the MS Knowledge Base. But since the computer seems to be running fine now, it may have just been a one off.
