do a control alt del and check in the task manager to see what process is taking the CPU in the 90's or higher.
Good Virus scan and spyware check are high on the lists. I know you posted you checked for those. Do you run any programs like seti at home, or FoH? those will use allot of CPU power.

you probably have loads and loads of spyware. try booting into safe mode and running adaware and spybot to clean out your system. also, you can post a hijackthis log here i think ifyou need more help.

Sounds like you have a lot of spyware. I had the same problems too. I installed the Microsoft anti spyware program along with spybot search and destroy, also installed spyblaster. Clean out your temp file on the start menu point to explore and in the address bar type %temp% and delete everything, then go to your windows/prefetch directory delete everything there, then interenet temp files and finally your windows/temp directory. After you do all and have your spy sweeper installed sweep your system and delete anything your spybot finds, or your other spysweeper programs. Also have them update auto and run them in the background. After I did all these my puter just sits at idle, and ready to go. Make sure you update your virus definitions. Hope this helps you
Good Luck |

when you restart your computer, press F8 while it is rebooting and should be able to boot into safe mode.

I personally don't like spysweeper. Keep in mind i have not tried it in several months so it may be better then I remember.
I personally like Spybot the best, followed by adaware. neither is prefect but together they are pretty good. |

But I also use IE sometimes and don't have any popup blocking utility and I hardly ever get popups...can't explain why though. Take a look at these freeware popup blockers. I've never used any of these so can't recommend a specific blocker...just look for the ones with 5 stars. Cricket

Fixing your popup problem this way is like turning up the radio real loud when you hear your engine screeching. You need to fix the root of the problem, the spyware.
Try these... http://www.rightcoaster.com/Malware.htm http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 |

im using maxthon browser, it got popup blocker built in, looks kinda like internet explorer too... for spyware scanners, i use spybot s&d, adaware, and i just started using webroot spysweeper like 2 weeks ago.. since spysweeper, i havent got anything on my system, it stays running in taskbar and stops almost everything b4 it enters, uses 12,140kb, bounces between 0-1 for cpu usage. and spysweeper picks up some minor trojans on system too, ones that norton av 2005 didnt!!
right now im using a hp pavilion laptop, 2.4g p4, 512 ram |
