I did it, no problems.. but my ABIT KT7-RAID comes with a heatsink/fan stuck on there, I just poped it off and put a dab of arctic silver on it instead of the normal stuff.

Yeap, would help quite a bit. That northbridge can and will get very hot, especially if you overclock by bus speed increases.

Arctic Silver also comes in an epoxy, which you could use to put a video chipset heatsink/fan combo on there with if you really wanna go overboard .

Lukedamac, did it make a difference? I've got the ABIT board (KT7a) and I was just curious.
I've never really considered taking the fan off to apply anything different. Does it help stability? I don't overclock, well for now anyway. I never thought about the stuff they used on the northbridge, just left it how it was.

All the best

sorry for the delay in replying alfielev. Well all I can really say is im not sure if it helps or not, I currently have the 800MHz T-bird to 890MHz and the system temp and processor temp only went up 1 degree on average. Im not sure of the chipset temp. But like Xayd said it most likely WILL have a positive effect. Me and Xayd are almost deaf due to all of the fans we use in our insane cooling techniques ;-)

7 fans in total in my system

2 intake "bottom front of case"
2 exhaust "top back of case"
1 small fan "taken from dreamcast console" for Vid Kard
1 chipset fan "with arctic silver"
1 power supply fan
1 T-Bird cooler "with arctic silver"
