Can only read 1 disc per boot ?

Ok, this is a friend's problem, i have no idea what the problem is...
his problem is this:
before windows loads, he inserts a disc to his cd-rom, he says it works fine.. but then if he wants to swap it for a different cd, he says it gives him an error and then to fix it he has to restart and then it will read the new swapped cd.. not only that but think of it as if he has a 2-cd game or even more, he can't install it because it asks for the 2nd cd and his cd-rom wont read it..
he also just told me that if he puts the cd before windows loads it wont read it..
any ideas guys ?
now, also, i told him to try some discs in his burner but he says all he sees is a blank disc when its in his computer, sounds pretty weird i donnu..

What are the specs of this computer and which operating system is he using?

Why is he putting a CD into the drive before Windows loads? Why doesn't he wait until the computer is at the Windows desktop?

Has he tried a different CD-ROM drive?

Has he tried the problem CD-ROM in another computer to see if it works or not?

Does he have Easy CD Creator installed?

Has he tried his CD burner in another computer to see if it's working properly or not?

Has he replaced the IDE cable yet?

It sounds like the CDs are bootable and are booting at least partway from the CD.

What is the result of Cricket's #2 suggestion, getting to the desktop with no CD installed?

ill tell him soon, hes AWAY right now, or maybe tomorrow at school..
all i know is that they're not bootable, he tried FIFA for example, etc...

also, hes not very knowledgable of computers so i doubt he tried the drives in a different computer, and i doubt theres any problems with the IDE cable since he didnt touch the inside of the computer and it just happened some time he wasnt sure when..
and i guess he puts a cd before windows loads because he tried after and it didnt work ? :-P
hes seriously not knowledgable really, i came over to him like a few months ago and his pc was full of spyware and all those stuff, installed spybot,adaware and spywareblaster and it cleaned his pc out.. i wonder whats wrong now.. he could have easy cd creator, newbie's program IMHO i really hated that program when i first saw it..
as for the rest (not many left :-P) ill ask him once hes back to MSN or maybe tomorrow at school..

it could be all your friend needs to do is update the driver.

hmm, it did happen all of a sudden though, theres no way he or anyone else touched his pc (hardware-wise at least) so im not sure.. he says it might be a virus, any chance of that ? that actually makes some sense since it only works before windows loads..

hes not trying to install anything, right now just play FIFA i donnu he just does it before windows boots..

ok.... has he installed the game before? if he has try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. it could be that your only aloud to have it on one computer at a time and its possibly seeing already on his computer.
