Performance hit
I ordered some new RAM for my computer to replace the crap that's in there now. It would get errors at PC3200 with timings of 3-5-5-9. To get it stable, I'm running at PC1600 and the timings are still only 2.5-4-4-6. My new RAM is a 512mb stick of Patriot XBL RAM with timings of 2-2-2-5. I also plan to overclock a bit. I know latencies are the most important thing of Athlon64 systems, but I'm still wondering how much of a performance hit I will notice going from 1gb of RAM to 512mb aside from loading times.
P.S. I did not put this in the memory section because it has to do with more overall computer performance.

If your computer wasn't going to the swap file much with 1GB of RAM, it might not "hit" performance too much with just 512MB of RAM in there now.
Are you running this new RAM at PC1600 speeds? Or was that the old stuff. Program loading speeds (the first time it's loaded, not subsequent times) are not really affected by the amount of RAM you have in your computer, it's actually determined by the speed and seek time of the hard drive you've got. Running the old stuff at PC1600. Patriot ships today. It tends to go to the swap file some and on the desktop I'm usually using 30%-60% of my RAM. (I don't like closing things). I was also wondering whether my video card would be bottlenecked a little bit by not having a gig. Especially in CS: Source and Half Life 2

You will only notice a slight slowdown in games as the faster timings counters the capacity loss. However, HL2 will take longer to load, both in between levels and at the start.
