Looking at a case
I have been looking at cases here, and both me and my budget are attracted to this case:
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...nufacture=ASUS I am wondering if this case is okay for a 3.0 ghz p4p800 se system? One of my concerns is the Power supply that comes with it. It is 300w, and I don't really know if it will be good... |

The case looks fine.
What other components are you going to install? Which video card? If it's one of the newer high end gaming video cards you're going to have to replace that 300 watt with something over 350 watts. Cricket

The components would be a CD burner, floppy drive, a soundcard, uhh, maybe a joystick, and a ATI 9700 pro video card. It's this video card that would be the cause of this concern, actually...
It is going to be a gaming system. |

yep, you need a new PSU. I bet that besides the 300W label, the PSU included in this case is not too good quality.
My recommendation is to get a 400+W PSU from Enermax, Antec, PC Power and Cooling, Tagan, Sparkle or OCZ. Dont buy those cheap PSUs that say to be 500 and 600 W, your equipment might work, but you are taking the risk of having a unsable system or dead system. A good PSU would last you for many upgrades. |

I was looking at this one: http://www5.ncix.com/products/index....re=THERMALTAKE
Problem is, it's another 60 bucks. I did a caculation with the PSU guide (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=98650) My proposed system need a minimum of 258 watts to work. I think because there is 40 watts left over, I can hang onto that PSU until I can earn a new one. |

You might be able to get away with the 300 watt PSU only if it's a good quality one. If it's a cheapie, you're going to put the other components at risk. And if the 300 watt PSU decides to blow, it could take some or all of the other components with it.

If your gonna keep that 9700pro in there then a good 300 watter will be ok BUT if your gonna go with todays cards then you need something over 400.
