I am using Windows XP home as my operating system. I am trying to install an HP Office Jet K60 printer / all-in-one. The HP installation CD says nothing about XP, but has drivers for Win 98, NT and Win 2000.
I am under the impression that I can install this printer from XP because XP (somewhere) has the required driver for the HP Office Jet K60. Question: What is the procedure for installing this printer? How do I go about finding the correct driver? How can I use the "ADD NEW HARDWARE" feature of XP to accomplish what I want? I tried downloading a program from the HP site - A140509_enu_xp - but that was a total disaster, as it froze-up my PC! PLEASE HELP!!! |

Yes Xp does have that driver according to this Knowledge base Google cache:
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...-a%20target=nw You should be able to just connect all the nessesary connectors and use the add new hardware wizard for a headache free PnP install. It is usually easier to connect via usb if you have that option. If the "hardware found" wizard doesn't start and you are sure you are all hooked up correctly try: Control Panel>Printers and Faxes>Add a printer Do this in "classic view" I am not familiar with the new view, I just change it. The option is availible when you start control panel if you haven't changed to classsic view yet. |

Did you follow the instructions EXACTLY? Download the web package driver file. Turn off the HP OfficeJet K Series device and disconnect either the USB cable or Parallel port cable. Temporarily disable antivirus software. Exit any running applications, games, utilities, and multimedia applications. Uninstall the previous version of the HP driver software if any is installed. The Windows XP mini-drivers do not need to be removed. Run the downloaded .exe file. Follow the screen directions presented during the software installation. etc. etc. |
