greedo SATA Trouble

Hello guys!

I have just bought new sata 160gb hard drive but I have a trouble to set it up and please help me.
My MB is Intel 865 perl, I already have two pata hard disks and my os is xppro, when I installed sata as manual says, pc not boot, then I go for bios and I could see sata and two pata hard disks identified by bios, I confused because of sata says maximum capacity is 8.6gb, but my sata is 160gb.
Only pc boots if I disable sata only, Please help me to solve this trouble.

Intel 2.8, 800fsb, 512 ddr pc400, AGP 128, 4X,
Thanx
sam

Make sure the drive with the OS is first in line for boot devices after floppy and cd if you have these and want them to be in the boot order.

You have to install the SATA controllers through the floppy disk or cd that came with your hard drive.
Throw that disk in your system and find an option about installing an SATA drive as a storage drive with an existing windows drive...in otherwords...as a secondary drive.

Normaly you would install your controllers when you install windows and windows asks you "To install raid/sata controllers press f6" I think its f6 at least. This is when you would put a floppy disk in for controller installion.

Good luck!

You don't need drivers for the 865 PERL. The SATA channels are controlled by the ICH5R Southbridge.

You DON'T need SATA drivers with that board. The only drivers you would install would be for RAID, which you're not using.

You didn't install XP on this drive did you?

Does the drive show up in disk management? You probably just need to format it and assign it a drive letter.

You do need drivers for the SATA
you must download drivers for the M.B.(any intel sata drivers will do
extract them to a Floppy and boot from the WIn XP CD
start presing the F6 button and at the next screen you will be asked to press S for specificateing the locatin of the driver (chose Win XP )
press Enter. At the next screen do not press "S" !!!!!
press Enter. And instal.

P.S.
don't remuve dhe Floppy from the drive t"ill you fully instal Windows
this hass been tested

No, you don't. This particular board has native SATA... Meaning the SATA controller is integrated into the Southbridge. No third party controller is used, so no drivers are needed. It works just like an IDE drive would.
