Hey guys i bought memory (256MB) on ebay and can u help me install it by giving the steps?
i have a sony vaio PCV-J150 memory:PC133 168 pin rite now i have only 64MB of memory and my OS is Win Me so i want to noe do i need to make a back up andcan i use the 64 MB and the one that i bought together? thanks and do i have to change the bios? |

To start with: turn off and unplug the computer. Open the case and install the stick of ram next slot to existing ram. Make sure both clips are fully latched, then power back up. If the bios sees the 256 then your done. If it doesn't, try the 256 by itself.

thanks and what about the hard drive info will it still be there and what about the bios?

oic thx and i heard that its better to have everything unplugged but the power cord which is connected to he tower because it will prevent shock? is this true?

If you can reach the tower from where it is, then only unplug the power cable. Don't worry about the VGA or speaker or any PS/2 or USB items. I have to unplug everything because I simply can't reach my tower where it is. I keep it inside the desk, and the cables are all too short to remove it while attached.
Be sure you don't have on fuzzy slippers or a wooly sweater, you don't want to create any static, but just to be sure, touch a metal part of the tower first before touching any circuts or boards. The largest memory module should be in the front. Place the 256 where the 64 is now and move the 64 to the open DIMM. Don't put in upside down, and be sure the little clips completely latch. You're now done. Turn on the computer and it will find the new ram, unless something went wrong. If so, then reply and tell us what happened.
