Really new to cooling

i am going to buy a p4 3.0GHz 800MHz 1mb L2 cache but the reviews people have written say that it runs really hot (prescott core). What do i do. What do i look for in fans.

You could go with the stock HSF combo or upgrade but there is more to cooling than just the heatsink and the fan for it. The best thing that i have found to do for cooling is as much cooler outside air into the bottom of the case as possible and the most hot air out of the top of the case

Bassically a cool case helps keep a CPU cool as well

Don't worry about it. The stock heatsink will work just fine for your processor, unless you plan to overclock. It's true that temps often range between 55-65°C, but that's just normal for a Prescott core I guess.

The stock Intel heatsink is engineered to work with that particular CPU running at stock speeds and with a appropriately cooled case. As long as you aren't overclocking the CPU and have good case cooling, you should be fine with the stock Intel heatsink.

I have a Prescott 3.2e and use a Zalman heatsink/fan combo and even at 10% overclock I haven't reached 50 degrees celcius under load yet.

I think the key is to have a well ventelated case
