antec p160 or coolermaster tac-t01???
which do you think is better? I know everyone loves the coolermastyer case, but I've been considering the antec a lot for my new build. The thing I like the most about the antec is the dual 120mm fan system and the position of the HDD bays (they face towards you). The look isn't bad either and its slightly cheaper.
Here are some links for the cases: Coolermaster: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...atch&ATT=Cases Antec: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...129-144&depa=0 All thoughts and opinions are appreciated. |

This is strictly my opinion, but I would go with the Antec for three reasons:
1) The 120mm fans will move more air and be very quiet. 2) I have never thought much of anything Coolermaster makes; the overall quality of the Antec is superior IMO. 3) One of the reviewers of the CM talks of sharp edges. I've yet to find one sharp edge in any Antec case. Regards Last edited by mc2phat; 03-09-2005 at 12:38 PM. |

Here's what I think...when it comes to choosing a case, don't go with what everyone else likes...choose the one that you like. It's going to be your computer, build it with the parts you choose.
Honestly, I couldn't care less which case you use...but I do care a lot about the case I use. Cricket

I have the Cooler Master case and I love it. It's very well-constructed, and everything in it is aluminum. You can see my sig for a picture. There are, however, two problems with it. One is the door -- it opens on the right side of the case, which is okay if you have your computer on the right side of your computer, but if you want to put it on the left, you would be out of luck. Also, it comes open easily when the case is being moved and when it goes to the end of its travel, it can bounce back, damaging the hinge; for this reason I tape the door closed whenever I move my computer. The door can be removed, but it's not easy. The other problem is that you can't add or remove hard drives unless you slide out the motherboard tray; of course, this involves disconnecting cables, headers, etc. and is annoying if you change drives frequently (although if you don't it shouldn't be a problem).
My roommate at college had the Antec. It's well-constructed, but the front panel is pretty chintzy -- not what you'd expect on a $100 case. The front ports are especially cheap-looking, and the temperature display can be distracting and is not as accuratre as the motherboard temp sensors. Also, the motherboard tray is ostensibly removable, but it's really not -- you have to take out all your cards if you want to take the tray out. However, it does have a much better hard drive mounting system. Both have blue lights at the front that add to the bling factor, but can be distracting if you're trying to sleep. If I were you, I would go with the Cooler Master, or if you are worried about the door, you can get the Praetorian instead of the Wave Master; they're basically the same case, but the Praetorian does not have the door and has a flat front panel.

I have the P160 for my oc toy and really like the look. As Cricket says tho' the choice is up to each individual on what you like to look at. As far as construction and features, I don't think you can find a nicer case. One caution on the Antec 120mm fans. The case comes with one rear mounted fan and a space/tray in the front for a second fan. However, the front space is so narrow you almost HAVE to use an Antec fan because a wider standard fan won't fit. I added a Panaflo 120mm to the rear and move the Antec to the front. Bought mine orignally with the solid side and added the window kit later. The front led's are easily unplugged/disabled. I added a neon lite border to mine as well as an Antec blue case light. Here's some pics that I posted in the POST Pics thread some time back.

nice pics panama...good clean wiring. anyway, the front fan shouldn't be a problem, as the one from newegg comes with both fans (including the side window). Another thing I really like about the p160 is the air filter; getting rid of dust in my current case is a real pain.
Thanks for all the replies; more are gladly welcome. As of now, I'm still leaning towards the p160...but if anyone knows of any problems with the p160, please let me know. Thanks again for everyone's help. |
