W D 80GB drive won't boot into Win2000 fully after Drive to Drive Copy

I bought a Western Digital 80 GB hard drive.

I previously has a quataum fireball 3 GB hard drive which was the master and boot drive

I wanted to copy the 3 GB hard drive to the WD drive and use that drive to boot into windows 2000

I booted the PC using the WD lifegaurd CD rom and then set up the new drive into a 20 GB partition and a 60 GB partition.

I then ran WD's Drive to Drive copy and copied the 3 GB old drive to the 20 GB partition on the new drive.

Now when I try to boot using the new drive as the boot drive, I get as far as the WIndow 2000 log in. I type in my name and password and it gives me a "loading personal setting" splash screen, then seconds later is shows a "saving personal settings" spash screen, and then returns to the "Press Ctl-alt-del" splash screen

any Ideas on how to fix this

at one point i got some kind of paging files message instructing me on where to go to change this, but when I clicked the OK button on that dialog box, it returned me to the "saving personal settings" splash screen and then the ctl-alt-del splash screen

Thanks very much for your help

Do a repair reinstall of Win2K. Boot with the CD, go into Setup (NOT repair), when it finds the existing install, then choose repair.

I had the same problem using WD software. I used the Maxblast software from Maxtor and all is well.

Maxblast is an option in your case. In order to use one drive manufacturer's cloning utility, ONE of the drives in the machine must be of that brand - and a Quantum is now recognized as a Maxtor since the buyout.
