ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe (High Definition Audio)

Hello

I have just built my first computer which has a Asus p5gdc-v deluxe motherboard but I am stuck on the high definition audio thingy!

C-Media High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC
Coaxial, Optical S/PDIF out on back I/O port
Features Dolby® Digital Live technology

On the motherboard there is a bit where you can attach different speakers for surround sound but when I try to load the software (supplied by ASUS) it tells me that their is no device present. I have tried to plug an old set of speakers (two of them) from my old computer into the audio connections but the software will not load. Do I have to buy a separate sound card or do I have to buy a set of surround sound speakers.

At the moment I have my old computers sound card plugged into my motherboard to get sound.

Any help would be most appreciated

Regards
