Right after I turn my computer on the temp jumps to 118 F. After playing Halo for just a few minutes ever thing starts to go into slow motion. When I return back to desktop temp shows between 125 and 128 degrees.
I have a 350w power supply and no additional fan. What is the best fix? Extra fan or better power supply or both ? Attached is my system information. Thanking you all in advance ! I would say first of all make sure your heatsink is seated properly on your CPU. Did you use some kind of thermal grease when you put the CPU in? Also, make sure the fins on the heatsink are clean and not clogged with dust. That can make a pretty big difference if it's bad enough.

Sorry, should have mentioned I already had checked the CPU and the heatsink is fine. Also checked the fins on the heatsink and they are completly clean. I think this problem may have started after I installed the Radeon 9800 Pro graphic card.

Do you have any additional fans in your case? if so, are they arranged properly? Try moving the case so It's has lots of airspace around the case (Especally the back) If that does not work, pop the cover off the case and see if that affects temperatures.
What kind of heatsink does it have? The Stock Intel? |

If you don't have any other fans beside the one in the PSU then you are not getting enough cool air moving through your computer. If you do have more fans make sure that air is moving through the case because a heat sink on your CPU can actually heat it up if there is no cooler air coming in.
Basically check all of your airflows everywhere and make sure that it is efficient and try openning the case as Puffie40 said to do

get your self a 400w power supply and install a fan which is located next to the heatsink to take out the hot air out..( Label out ).
and another to fans facing your mother board and the graphic card... keep your case open both sides and keep it somewhere open not under the table or so.... thats what I did and things are running damn good... Thank goodness... |

128°F isn't that bad for game play, actually, as it's only about 54°C. I would feel more comfortable if it had room for a rear case exhaust fan, though. If you start adding a bunch of fans, which aren't really necessary, then you should get a new power supply. (And that's not to mention all the extra noise from the fans.) With all the goodies you have in there already, a quality 350W unit is probably the lowest you could safely go. Add much more then going with a 400W or higher might be in order.

You may also want to make sure that your fans are running at 100%. I installed Speedfan 4.21 and found out my fans were only operating at 40%, and waiting far to long to increase. I was able to use this program to set my own parameters and it's much cooler now. Give this a try before you spend any money.
They have a newer version now, 4.22, I don't know what was changed. The setup is kind of lengthly, but if you read the help file, and take your time, it will work great. After you're done, place the icon into Start/All Programs/Startup, and the program will run on boot.

Nice find Marke... I like
Although my computer is fine and the fans are good, it's actually a bit of fun to mess around with fan speeds Who would have thought it?? (Am I sad or what!!) |

I hope not, cause I enjoy it too.
You can use the program to mess around with your FSB also. But if you look at the Clock tab, under ASUS it has only P4P800 and A7N8X, sadly, my board is the A7V8X. Still wanting to overclock later, cause my processor and ram all say they can be used for 200 mhz, but I only have 166 now, but that's for another thread, not gonna steal this one. |
