USB not working
I've done everything I can, now I need help/advice. I'm running an ASUS P4P800SE motherboard with WinXP Pro and I can't get the USB ports, any of them, working.
Any ideas? If you need more info, just ask. Thanks, Rich |

As far as I know. I've installed them, and did any necessary updating too.

Take a peek in your bios... I have seen them disabled before, although I'm not familiar with your board so you may or may not have an option.
Have you tried multiple devices in the ports or only one? |

They're enabled in the bios, and i've tried a PC Cam, flash drive, and a game controller in multiple ports. Very frustrating!
Everything in the device manager, says "The device is working properly". BS it is! lol Rich |

I can't seem to find it anywhere, but I remember reading somewhere that Windows XP needs at least Service Pack 1 for USB 2.0 to function. I could be wrong, but maybe someone else could confirm that. Do you have SP1 or SP2 installed?
EDIT: I have found two examples through google searches of your board having faulty USB ports. Perhaps it can't be corrected you should just return/exchange it for a new one. Last edited by Stryker; 03-23-2005 at 12:14 PM. |

Most likely you've become a statistic, like so many others, of the failing Intel ICH4/5 Southbridge chips. Take a look inside at your motherboard. Locate the approx 1" sqaure chip over near the front panel connectors (bottom right corner). It should say Intel in big letters. See if there is any noticible burn marks or brown discoloration on the chip. Plugging something into the front case usb ports seems to be causing the failure but no one has seen any notice of acknowledgement from Intel. Asus, MSI and Gigabyte boards have all experience reported failures of this same Southbridge. As Stryker has inidcated, best to contact Asus for an RMA.

I have the same motherboard and was having similar problems. Windows XP sp2 has built in drivers. Othewrwise you might have to go into the device manager and look for a yellow question mark next to one of the usb things. You might have to download drivers to get them to work.
