Cheap Psu Voltages

I just wanted to share this with you folks here. I recently set up a small DURON system for archiving my files. The specs are as follow:

AMD Duron 1.8
PC CHIPS M811LU v3.1
512mb Rosewill PC2700
PNY GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB
16xDVD Rom
WD400EB 40GB 5200RPM
WD200JB 200GB 7200RPM
WD250JB 250GB 7200RPM
1X80mm Case Fan

and this L&C 300watt junk psu...

Just take a look at the voltages in this screenshot!!

Needless to say the PSU is going to be replaced. I only used it cause it was the last one I had laying around.

To be honest until now I never really understood the reason why everyone was so worried about a BRAND NAME psu... I've had several cheap PSU's work fine for me... as a matter of fact I have a L&C 350watt running in another system right now... it's voltages are RIGHT ON.... though there isn't nearly as much stuff in that system... just a few more fans. In any case I just wanted to share this little bit of info here... maybe this screenshot will prevent someone from purchasing a CHEAPO psu in the future... I know I'm gonna go with the PROVEN products from here on out.

wow that is bad. You also have to consider that 300 watts might not be enough (like if you had a proven brands 300 watt PSU, would it be better?) Maybe someone can answer me that, cus I cant

Well actually, I just tried a 425 and I'm getting about the same readings with the voltages. This leads me to beleive that it isn't the crappy PSU, it's the Crappy motherboard.

Have you tried a different monitoring program?

Yeah I highly doubt the system would run if those voltages were true..

I'll try one or both of these and post my findings.

Thanks for the suggestions.

EDIT**

Well I've tried both of the programs... take a look. This board just can't keep the right voltages. The +12 line bounces from near 13 to the 5.xx. Most of the other voltages are also way off their mark. But hey... for a board the retails for 23 bucks... what can you ask for?
