I recently reformatted the hard drive in a Compaq Presairo 5030 and did not have a system restore disk available for the P.C. So I installed Windows 98 second edition along with office and everything seemed to go well. I went to Compaq's web site and was able to get the proper sound card drivers and video drivers, the problem is with the currently installed PCI modem. Even though I downloaded the correct driver for the Rockwell based 56 K modem while trying to install the drivers after windows recognizes the new hardware it asks to insert disk "Windows disk 1" I tried using the Windows 98SE disk but it apparently does not contain the correct driver that I need. The message indicates the need for a "Rockwell based modem enumerator"after trying a second time to install the drivers for the modem I got another message requesting a disk for the installation of a "PCI Serial controller" any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

It is probably not looking in the right place on the Windows CD. Browse the CD, what it is looking for should be on there.

If you have downloaded the correct driver for your modem, after the new hardware is recognized, point windows to the location of the drivers on your harddrive, and it should properly install the drivers. Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any more questions.
