Computer won't boot up with printer connected

I am trying to install a Canon BJC 5000 on my secondary computer and the computer won't boot up as long as the printer is connected (parallel). Both the printer and the cable work fine on another computer. The computer boots up if the printer isn't connected. Specs on the computer: M571 motherboard, cyrix 333 cpu, 10.2 gb hard drive, 64mb sdram, w98se. HELP!!!!

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
You could check the parallel port settings in BIOS. Look into the BIOS of your working PC (with printer) and set the lpt settings of the other PC to the same.

The parallel port setings are the same on both computers. settings:
ON BOARD -378
PARALLEL PORT MODE - NORMAL
EPP - N/A
DMA - N/A
IRQ-7

With printer connected I never see anything on the monitor, and no beeps.
Could this be a power supply problem? The power supply on non-working machine is 250Watt.

I replaced the power supply with a new 300 watt p/s and replaced the ribbon cable coming from motherboard to parallel connector. I still have the same problem. I have ordered an ISA card that will give me another LPT. If that doesn't work I guess it means the motherboard.
