Thumbs down new motherboard, no video on monitor

our old motherboard fried, so we bought a new one and installed it ourselves. our computer processor is 256 mgh, 266 ddr ram, amd athlon xp1800. everything started up except the monitor, it read the drives except our 3.5 floppy. i tried some of the tips listed in this thread about taking out the video card and ram. without the video card hooked up the monitor light stops blinking but says on the screen it's not setup or something like that. when i take out the ram and turn on the computer from on/off switch in back, it beeps at me ( i don't know how many times, didn't count cause kids were sleeping around corner). i tried to switch around some of the adapters from the motherboard to the hard drive, cdrom, and floppy drive, all according to what the specs in the book showed, but still nothing. Is there something that I'm missing. some of the plugs on the motherbaord didn't quite match what the old motherboard had, plus the new one was smaller in size. BTW the new motherboard is a Syntax, which we found out sold out to someone else. What can i do to fix this? Please help!!!

Post specs of the actual components,(make and model), specifically motherboard and vid card, and we can then tell U if it is a compatability issue.. Old vid card mey not be compatable with newer motherboard..
