Talking Super game system...

I've been asked to find specs for an "almost over the top" game system.
Price still counts, so no dual 6800 ultras (Yes I know the board has 2 PCI-E 16 slots. He can add another card later.), but I can get pretty wild with the rest.
Here's what I've got so far :

Processor : http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...tem=19-103-497

Motherboard : http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16813136151

The problem is memory, the FSB for the processor is 1GHz and while the standard 3200 ram is listed for the motherboard it also has a 1GHz FSB.
So the memory will be overclocked.
I've been considering this : http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16820220031
and this : http://www.crucial.com/store/PartSpe...64Z503&cat=RAM
but wild overclocking isn't my usual field.

I could really use a few recommendations here.

I hope this one gets built, it should be fun.

Pam,
A great place to find the specs for high end computers are the manufacturers like ABS and Alienware who post the components on their website. Don't bother with Dell, Gateway etc who use proprietary parts. Also computer magazines like CPU Magazine and MaximumPC magazine that review high end computers.

You probably already looked at Crucial's website for the ram?

Yes I have checked Crucial, it's one of the choices.
I'd forgotten about MaximumPC, which is odd since I subscrbe, time to check a few recent issues. Thanks for the reminder about them.

For around that price range for ram you can get the patriot xbl for like $225,. Or you can get the OCZ platinum rev.2 for around that price. They're both TCCD so should get pretty high clocks. You can try www.dfi-street.com for more suggestions. Those guys there are really helpful. Also, if you can hold off on the processor and wait for the 3700+ with the san diego core it would be pretty sweet. The mod over at dfi is testing it and got clocks of 2.8-2.9 gig stable ON AIR and they say 3 gigs is bootable but not stable yet.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out this evening and see what's going on.
The more ram choices the better at this point.
The wait depends on what the client decides.

thats the patriot XBL. its much better than the PC4200 since it runs tighter timings, and will do so at PC4200 speeds. TCCD chips are actually PC4200 chips, just downclocked for PC3200 usage. PC4200 TCCD usually has default timings of 2.5-3-3-8 or 2.5-4-4-8.

Added to the list Tin.
I've been reading up at the DFI forum and patriot XBL is well thought of over there as well.
I would have overlooked it entirely left to myself.
