processor in wrong slot after NO hardware change
hi
a buddy of mine is sysadmin at a company that was getting rid of it's old mailservers one of these is a compac proliant 800 with 4 * 18 gig scsi raid (pci card) and 1 600 mhz p3 processor (there are 2 slots on the mobo but only one is in use) my buddy lives close to my parents house so he gave the server to me while i was visiting my parents. While there i did a flawless install of windows 2000 and some other programs (i even lisend to some music..) i turned it off 5 hours before i transported it to my place, but now that i am here it keeps saying processor in wrong slot system haled i wantto stress again i changed nothing before this i had a look around to see if anny jumper came loose but i could see no jumpers of anny sort near either of the processors i tried lifting and reseating both the processor and the vrm, i tried putting both in the other slot neither helped what can i do would resettingthe bios halp and would i have to reinstall the raid pci card after that (and if so, how would i do that??) thanks in advance Last edited by corosus; 04-26-2005 at 07:45 PM. |

Check that the processor is completely seated in the slot. Also, try taking it out, blowing compressed air in the slot, and rebooting. There whould also be a card in the other slot where the second processor would go -- follow the same procedure there.
If you want to access your data, move the card and the drives to another computer -- when you boot the computer up, you'll be able to install the drivers and get the drives recognized by Windows.
