new issue

ok, my bro's xh555 i posted here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=129016 , they sent it back sayin i didnt plug everything all the way in.....now i cant get it to recognize the dvd-rom drive, when i try to set it in bios to boot from cd, it skips it and goes right to loading xp, i want to reinstall xp, but cant cuz the drive 'isnt there' for some reason.....when i put a disk in, it spins up, but thats it....do i need a driver ???
the drive was formated and loaded with xp on my hp ze5185 laptop with my p4 processor and different dvd-rom drive, now in the hp xh555 with amd athlon 4, i didnt know if thats the issue, maybe?

You don't need a driver to boot from it. If it's skipping, either the drive or the CD is defective or something is not set up right in the bios - or the motherboard still has issues.

Take a look here http://www.billssite.com/step22.htm but your problem IMO sounds like a dead CD-rom drive. Do you have another CD drive that you could test in the HP XH555?
