Computer dies while playing games
I am having issues with my computer, It seems to go into a susupended mode whenever I try to play games. By suspended, I mean the monitor goes black, the computer become non responsive, but it isnt going into shutdown mode. I physically have to hit the reset button for it to reboot. I am thinking that it is just a setting in the video card, but who knows.
Specs for my computer. Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI AMD 64 3400+ 1Gb pc 2700DDR ram, muskin and kingston Chaintech 6600Gt OC I am also using a hacked version of Windows xp, and I am thinking that maybe the drivers that were loaded on it are not ment for a sli board, but who knows. Should I try to update to the Newest Nvidia driver? |

You should give your video card a feel after it locks up and see if it is overheating. If it's hot over the GPU, like hot enough to kinda burn to the touch, there is your culprit. That is what it sounds like it might be to me.

Well, I was watching the temp of my card as I played a few games, and It was holding steady at 50 degrees celcius. Nothing out of the ordinary there. I was playing Empire Earth II, and a simple game of rocket mania when it has happened. Only happed 3 times so far, but its a problem I want to get fixed. It has never done it to me while I am playing civilization III conquests though.

Well, I think I am running the microsoft driver for the card. I tried to download the newest nvidia driver, and I rebooted, and It was in 4 bit color mode and 600x400 screen res. It wouldnt let me change it, so I just rolled the driver back. I didnt however uninstall the old driver before I installed the new one. Could that be the problem?
