Hello :
Hope someone can help. I was using my PC this morning with no problems. I decided to reboot - simply because I haven't in a while. System would not boot - gave me the option of Safe Mode, Last Good Configuration, etc. None of these worked - each merely returned to the same screen. After powering off, retrying, several times the problem advanced to a disk error - ALT+CTRL+DEL to restart. I tried to boot from the CD and REPAIR. At the C: prompt I tried a DIR and get an error message saying that the directory was unaccessible. I used the FIXBOOT command. Now I get 'unable to load Operating System' when trying to boot. I'm reasonabley sure that the hard drive has failed. Is there any utility I can purchase/shareware that will allow me to fix the problem - at least so that I can get my files off the drive so that I can reformat and restinstall XP? Any ideas? Thanks. |
