Hard Drive active when not using

Can anyone explain why my hard drive light shows hard drive activity even though I'm not doing anything? I am running 2000 and connected to the internet but not into any programs. It doesn't seem to happen with my xp machine.

Thanks

There are lots of programs that will work in the background even if you are not doing anything. Are you running a firewall and an up to date antivirus on the machine to ensure you are not getting any unwanted activity?

It might be programs running in the background. But I suggest you must do a virus and spyware scan immediately.
