Floppy Drive Keeps running

When I take the floppy out of the floppy drive it keeps running and I can't shut it off until I restart the pc. How do I correct the problem? Running win xp , 256 mb ddr ram, 30 gig hd , dvd player and cd rw. Thanks

Is this a new problem with existing hardware, or did you just install the floppy drive?

Is the floppy drive the exposed type where the face plate is sticking through the front of the case, or the hidden type? Sometimes with the hidden type the eject button won't go back all the way when the floppy disk is removed.

Have you tried the floppy drive in another computer? If it does the same thing there, it might be defective. Try cleaning it.

Thanks everyone . Problem solved. It was the button not going back in all the way.
