DiamondMax SATA HDD with ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe??? (ICH5R)

I am curious if anybody is successfully running any of the Maxtor DiamondMax (16mb buffer) SATA HDD's on a ICH5R controller? Even better, if anybody is successfully running one of the DiamondMax drives on a ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe?

I am having a really hard time completing my build because the ICH5R southbridge on my ASUS motherboard is not detecting my DiamondMax 10 SATA drives. I am confident it is not the hard drives, because they are detected flawlessly each time on the Promise SATA controllers on the same motherboard.

ASUS tech support has been absolutly horrible on the matter (how do they get their good reputation?!), and I am now being asked to RMA the board for the 3rd time. I ordered the parts for this build on 2/1, and have yet to have a working computer. My work is suffering and I need help!

Is anybody successfully using these drives on a ICH5R controller?
