Problem with Raid Drives
Hi,
I have a problem, I had 4 120GB WD 7200RPM HDDs set up on two stripe raids using the onboard raid connection on my old shuttle motherboard.. Unfortunately the motherboard broke a wile ago and I am now desperately trying to find a raid card that is compatible so that I can recover the data. The onboard raid device was made by Highpoint and I have tried to recover the data using a PCI raid card from ebuyer, however this did not work, even though I was able to create a stripe raid and using a recovery program to scan the unmounted and unallocated drive it found basically all of the data. But when I tried to back it up all the files were completely corrupt. Now for the next problem, I currently only have a notebook and therefore cant connect any PCI raid cards. Can any help me please?? I don’t mind buying some external hdd caddys that connect via USB, Would it be possible to set up a stripe software raid? When both drive are mounted via two separate USB ports?? Please let me know , cheers.. bo.

Unfortunately, you're pretty much out of luck unless you can find that exact same motherboard on eBay (which you may be able to do). You need to use the same exact RAID controller for your RAID array. Thins kind of thing, of course, is why it never makes sense to store stuff on a RAID 0 array that is really valuable unless you religiously make backups.
