Exclamation Scanner problems

Hi all,
I have a problem with a scanner. The scanner and software were installed and both were reconized by the computer(Win 2000 pro installed)When a scan was attempted a box came up on the monitor saying "Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconected. Check status." The cable was replaced with the same result. The scanner was then installed on another computer(Win XP pro installed) the scanner worked fine. The scanner was then reinstalled on the orginal computer and the problem returned. Another HDD(Win 98 installed) was installed on this computer and the scanner and software installed, the scanner worked fine. Has anyone have any ideas?

Regards
Graeme

How is the scanner connected to the PC?

If it's USB, make sure the USB ports are working properly because you may have a USB driver issue. If you have another device that uses USB, plug it into the same port and see if it connects properly.

Hi Stryker,
The scanner is connected through USB and I connected a digital camera through the same USB port and it worked fine. All other programs on the computer work with no worries. I also connected connected another HDD to the computer and the scanner worked fine.

Hiya,

Are you positive the drivers for the scanner that are installed are compatible with Win2000P? Visit the scanner's manufacturer website and see if they have driver updates or anything. Try removing the drivers and installing direct from the website of the manufacturer so you know you're getting the correct and most current version of the driver.
