Pissed EXTREME PC problems for months, cant take it anymore

At first let me say that i dont have any idea where to post this, and im sorry of i got it wrong.

Well i have not had a working pc for over 6 months, the problems just never stopped. I can't take ot anymore, and let me say this : i tried refformating, many, many, many countless times.

HERE IS WHAT MY PROBLEMS ARE RIGHT NOW: ( please read )
When i have service pack 1 a lot of things freeze all the time, and it takes ages to load the pc. ( it hangs at the loading windows screen, before the accounts, for a long while ) and just 4 days ago i could use the internet, but i have to wait like 3 minutes from the time when windows loads.
but my msn would keep signing in and out, and it would suck.
but just recently my internet stops working after 5 minutes of use.

When i install sp2 i dont have long wait times for pc to start up, but my internet works for only like 1 second litterally, then it stops.
What i mean by not working, is that my browser doesnt do its job, and my msn stops working and my aim messenger does to.. but i can still find servers in cod and cs:source, and even play. but y doesnt m browser work in that case?
a while ago i had the option of wether to hav sp1: long load time, badly working msn.. or sp2: everything fine exept internet.
now internet doesnt work on either packs.
i have been trying to battle this for ages, and i cant take it anymore. i want a normal pc.
please help, i beg u.

DSL sometimes is flimsey, (atleast my friends was). And if your on a router, have you tried checking out the signal? If none of those work, call your internet provider and have a talk with them.

Can you connect to the router configuration page? What kind of router do you have? Also, under SP1, did you install the motherboard and video drivers?

last time i had a similar problem, but it had nothing to do with the computer. it was because my network cable was faulty.

Have you tried getting Firefox? Sounds like SP2 just screwed with your IE, so try using an alternative browser like Firefox or Opera.

Before installing SP2 you need to do some preparatory steps to insure a clean install. Removing all Adware, Spyware and Viruses is a must. I also recommend using Disk Cleanup to get rid of unnecessary files and Disk Defragmenter to defrag before the SP2 install. You should also turn off your antivirus before the SP2 upgrade. Which brings up a good question - what AV are you running? If it's McAfee or Norton 2004 or 2005, they can cause some serious slowdowns. Sounds to me like you need to thoroughly clean out your machine and check the Start Up programs (msconfig) to see what all is running in the background and shut some of them down.

RazorDX, your comments won't do anything to help fix this problem. SP2 doesn't "screw(ed) with your IE".

However, his advice to use an alternative browser is good. That's the logical next step if a spyware clean doesn't fix things.

how would i get another browser? dont i have to download? well my internet is being funky so its hard to download.

now that im thinking about it, it might be a faulty cable. although befor ethe internet worked kinda ok with sp1, and didnt work with sp2, so shudnt be the cable.

i have "instant wireless series-wirless-B broadband router" model: befw1154, it says 2.4 ghz on it.

i havent tried doing disk difragment yet, but i just used disk cleaneup.

how do i connect to the router configuration page thefultonhow?

i called the internet ppl they said my IE browser was bad, and get firefox. i think thats bs because my msn and steam and aol messenger works badly too. so ya.

what il try now: what panama red said. in repsone to his question i have Antivirxp for my anti virus

You might have to check your router's user manual, but usually you can go to the router settings by typing in http://192.168.1.1/ and then typing your username and password. If the computer your using now is connected to the same router as the computer you're having problems with, then the router may not be an issue.

The BEFW11S4 is a lemon. Try updating the firmware and do a hard reset, reconfigure.

whats a lemon? whats a bef11s4? whats firmware, and whats a hard reset?
im sorry for not understanding anything, im not very good at computers.
new info!!!!!!!!!!!:
i installed SP2 again to see what happens, and ya the internet doesnt work. but the problem is that i cant uninstall sp2 anymore. it says it cant find the file

very important! i just remembered a long while ago i cought an msn spread virus that did this thing to my pc. i reinstalled windows, which caused some minor problems like saying that things need to be reinstalled and stuff.. and i wanted to refformat to have a good new pc. and when i did, i got all these **** ass horror problems like evil pop ups that dont stop popping up, etc.. i got a new hardrive, rformatted for the 15th time and nowi have these internet problems.
maybe that old virus is still in my pc, even though my internet worked when i reinstalled windows, and i even got a new hardrive. just saying though.

The BEFW11S4 is the model of your router. Calling something "a lemon" means it was not a very good quality product. Firmware is the software that runs on your router. Get the latest here: http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=17

You then need to reset it. The manual will tell you how. A "hard reset" means the router is set back to all default settings. Now you can reconfigure the router as you need.

my whole pc is a damn lemon lol.
anyways i cant get the new firmware since my browser doesnt work, and the only way to make it work is to delete sp2. but it doesnt delete, it says it cant be found im scrued.
maybe i shud refformat for 56 millionth time, and im guessing it could very well be my router's fault.
well looks like i got no choice, another refformat coming right up

When you reformat, make sure that either you do so with a Windows XP CD that is slipstreamed with SP2 (read more here), or download the full SP2 install (available here), burn it to CD, and install it right after installing Windows and before attempting to connect to the internet -- this means unplugging the network cable from your computer if there is one, or unplugging the adaptor if possible, or disabling it in Device Manager if it's a PCI card and drivers are preloaded. After that, immediately install AVG Free to protect yourself from viruses.
