how much memory needed?
how much is everyone who is building a pc right now using? i was going to go with 1gb KIT.. but is that enough ? i will be doing gaming and listening to music and thats about it.

Since memory is getting fairly cheap now I would get a gig, although make sure it is two sticks of 512mb (since you said a kit I assume it is too sticks anyway). Any more than that won't really make a big difference since some other part will probably bottleneck performance.

For gaming and music, 1 gig is good. I'd go no less, but if you going to get into video editing and other memory intensive items, 2 gig would be better. You can also make sure your mobo has 4 mem slots so you can start with 1 gig and go to 2 later on.

I'm currently building with 1 gig mostly - 2 gigs for heavy multitasking and multimedia, and 512 megs for budget systems. The 1 gig kits (512x2) are so cheap now that's the way to go - 80 bucks for Corsair value select.
