Want to install additional Case fan
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Less than two weeks ago I finished my first build. Whew! Since I have two optical drives and two hard drives plugged in I no longer have 4-pin power hook ups available. There is a 5-pin power hook up available (I think that it is a 5-pin power hook up). What I want to do is add another fan in the front of the case to force air to travel over the hard drives. All of the hardware is running well below the recommend maximum values set by the manufactures. (If one can believe them) Info from the BIOS: VCORE OK DDR25V OK +3.3V OK +12V OK Current CPU Temperature : 36C Current CPU FAN Speed : 3924 RPM Current SYSTEM FAN Speed : 2126 RPM Info from Everest (can’t use MBM5 – it does not support my motherboard) Motherboard : 25C/77F CPU : 32C/90F (Max temp is 70°C according to AMD) Maxtor : 44C/111F (Max temp is 55°C according to Maxtor) CPU Fan : 3792 System Fan : 2058 CPU Core 1.39V +3.3V 3.25V +12V 12.16V VBAT Battery 4.02V DIMM 2.59V From reading other threads I know that there are Y-splitters that can split a 4-pin power hookup giving one an extra 4-pin power hook up. BUT I don't think that I can use a splitter since the thread said: “and don't use one with a drive (hard drive or optical drive). Splitting the connectors doesn't increase the capacity of the PSU, so if you have too many splitters, you can overload the circuit.” Since I am using the 4-pin power hook ups for hard drives & optical drives, I guess I am out of luck. Any suggestions? Oh yea the motherboard allows only one System_Fan. So I can’t plug another fan on it. Thanks!

You can buy fans with pass-through 4 pin molex connectors and just plug them into the line between the power supply and an optical drive. This way you don't even need a y-splitter power adapter.
It's not a problem to take power from the optical drive. What you don't want to do is take power from the main hard drive that the system boots from. Adding one case fan won't overload the power supply. Cricket

most modding case fans have a two way plug on them so they just jump off each other plug on bottom right of pic
