XP won't read usb flash drive
For some reason, I can't get access to flash drives on my computer (XP Pro w/ SP2). It pops up as a device when I plug it in, but the removable drive doesn't appear on My Computer. I messed with some stuff to no avail, but I got the feeling the problem has something to do with it being "mounted". I don't really know what that is, but I've heard that's a problem with new HDDs. Anyway, if I look on the properties of the device it lists the disk space and eveything, but it won't let me access it. Any ideas?
...oops, this should have been put in the Drives and Storage forum. Sorry. Last edited by RedKangaroo; 06-09-2005 at 06:56 PM. |

be sure that you have usb 2 enabled.I think you may.
also check in windows explorer to see if it is listed there. I have seen windows act somewhat funny on this but usally ended up working just fine., I have about 12 if these devices in use plus a usb hard drive and they all work just fine 12 differant slots, and not all in use at the same time. |

How much free space do you have on your HDD that has your OS on it? I had a similar problem because I did not have enough free space on my HDD.

I thought it might have been the HDD space thing, cause I had about 3GB free when I tried it last, but now I have about 10GB free and it still isn't showing up.
The flash drive is definately being recognized because it's listed under devices, but it's still not showing up as a removable storage drive under My Computer... so I can't do anything with it. |
